Generation Charleston - At A Glance
-Generation Charleston was founded in 2006 by the Charleston Area Alliance.
-The mission of the group is to empower the Capital City's emerging leaders through community involvement, professional development and social networking.
-In just two short years, Generation Charleston has grown to more than 550+ members.
-The group is led by two Co-chairs, a three-member Executive Management Team, and six work teams, each with two Co-Captains. The work teams are: Housing, Community Outreach, Professional Development, Communications, Membership, and Special Events.
-Generation Charleston hosts monthly meetings featuring keynote speakers who are proven community leaders. 2008 speakers include Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito and Charleston Mayor Danny Jones.
-The group is actively involved in community development and has donated more than 250 hours of volunteer time to causes such as Habitat for Humanity and the YWCA Resolve Family Program.
-Generation Charleston has also helped community planners shape city initiatives through focus groups on topics ranging from the Sternwheel Regatta and Slack Plaza to the Clay Center.
-The group is actively looking for opportunities to get members involved in regional Board(s) of Directors for non-profit organizations and partner with businesses and government agencies on projects that share our mission of retaining and empowering young professionals in Charleston.
