Volunteer Opportunities for the 2008 Beat Beethoven 5k Fun Run/Walk

Volunteer Opportunities for the West Virginia Partnership

The West Virginia Partnership to Promote Community Well-Being currently has a vacancy for a Youth Representative (Under 25) and is Governor appointed.  WV's Partnership is the state's designated abuse prevention and intervention planning body and an advisory council for WV's implementation of its federal Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant.  Members are expected to attend 4 quarterly meetings in addition to special workgroup meetings.

Volunteer Opportunities for the Charleston Ballet's Family Fun Bash

Volunteers are needed to assist the Family Fun Bash benefiting the Charleston Ballet on Saturday, June 7, 2008 from 6:00-9:00 pm at the home of Mrs. R. Edward Hamrick, 401 Fort Hill Drive.  2-3 volunteers are needed to work various booths for one hour blocks. Board of Directors for the Kanawha Players Theatre


Kanawha Players Theatre has Board of Directors positions coming available for elections on June 8, 2008.
Kanawha Players is one of the oldest, continuously operating amateur theater companies in the country. It has produced a season of live productions since 1922. The mission of Kanawha Players is to produce quality theater in a nurturing community environment, while providing a place for education, training and encouragement to those interested in participating in the dramatic arts.
Board members attend monthly meetings and have the option of serving on committee teams in several areas. Volunteer Opportunities for West Side Main Street

Volunteers needed to assist the West Side Main Street Program with their adorable Wiener Dog Races - yes I said four legged wiener dogs! Volunteer Opportunities for the Charlie West Blues Fest

25-30 volunteers are needed to assist with the Charlie West Blues Fest on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Schoenbaum Stadium located within Coonskin Park from 1:00 pm - 11:00 pm.  This USO-type show fundraiser benefiting the WV Guard Family Relief Fund is being produced by the West Virginia Blues Society, Inc.  They are looking for volunteers to take tickets; sell drinks, beer, food; help with the entertainers, etc.  If you are interested in volunteering please contact Jack Rice, WVBS President, at 304-389-1439. 

Volunteer Opportunities for the Capitol Market's Market Mixer

The annual Market Mixer Fundraiser is scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, 2008 from 6 pm to 8 pm.  The fundraiser is an annual event and it is in its 5th year of hosting a spectacular event which brings over 300 guests to Capitol Market.  Many of these guests are business people taking the opportunity to network plus offering Capitol Market a captured audience to showcase its destination, as well as, raise money for Capitol Market (a non-profit organization).  Their goal this year is $30,000!  The event is catered by Soho's with appetizers, a wine tasting by Falcor and imported beer (draft) and live jazz music by Bob Thompson.  
Members of Generation Charleston have been asked to consider participating as volunteers throughout the two hour event.  Tasks include: checking-in guests, greeting guests at the door and serving beer.  Volunteers would receive complimentary tickets.

Volunteer Opportunities for the Alzheimer's Association

Volunteers are needed to help plan the Memory Walk, which is the largest awareness and fundraising event for Alzheimer's disease. The planning committee meets once a month to plan logistics, recruit teams and raise awareness about the Walk. College Summit is an award-winning national non-profit organization strengthening the college-going culture in low-income schools and communities. 79% of students who attend a College Summit workshop enroll in college, and 80% stay in college.  Each summer, College Summit calls on hundreds of summer volunteers - alumni, college/graduate students, young professionals, community leaders, and high-level executives to help talented low-income high school students enroll in college. At intensive 4-day residential workshops across the country, volunteers coach students through the college transition process.  Commitments range from four days to multiple weeks during the summer.

Event Committee For 20 years Habitat for Humanity has helped build homes and hope in Kanawha and Putnam Counties and now is the time to celebrate those accomplishments. An event committee is needed to help plan events that will showcase the past, celebrate the present and share the vision for the future. Event planning, marketing, advertising and education backgrounds needed! We are hoping to have several large events in the fall, so there will be a commitment of several months needed.

JA of WV is a non-profit organization with the goal of teaching kids about business, ethics and economics and is in need of volunteers!  Volunteers are business owners, parents, college students or anyone who is interested in mentoring kids. Volunteers must fill out a volunteer profile which is on the JA of WV web site at www.jaadvantage.com.  Once a match is made, volunteers are trained and provided with the materials they will need to teach.
